Trucking safety
Most of the Trucking Contractors are either Independent Owner Operators, or larger companies with multiple trucks. The Independent Owner Operator (IOO) can register through the BC Forest Safety Council website as can the larger companies with 2 to 5 employees, 6 to 19 and over 20 employees.
Keep Accurate Records
Professional Drivers are required to fill out their log books timely and accurately. The Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement (CVSE) Officers will be checking Log books if you get stopped. They are also looking for deficiencies with your vehicle that may make it unsafe to be on the highway.
Pre-Trip Inspection
Before heading out to work, check over your vehicle and identify any deficiencies in your log book.
Here are a few things to note:
- Lights are working properly.
- Tires Inspected for deficiencies.
- Brakes adjusted and working properly.
- Check engine fluids.
- First Aid Kits/Spill Kits on board.
- Travel Plan left with someone for check-in.
